The faces behind SK Travels are Shelly and Kyle. We are married with two adult children, and we have been fortunate enough to amass a lot of miles and travel experiences. We love every single aspect of travel and are constantly seeking new destinations, adventures, and experiences. We are firm believers in the philosophy of living your life NOW rather than hoping that you will SOMEDAY have the opportunity. This philosophy is the inspiration for our ethos, “Make someday TODAY!” We would be honored to leverage our travel experience to help you build your next dream vacation.

 

How did we get started
We already knew that we had a passion for travel and came to realize that we enjoyed planning for our upcoming travels nearly as much as the trip itself. It is not uncommon for our Friday and Saturday evenings to be spent watching hours upon hours of travel videos or scouring the internet to find our next adventure. Once that destination is decided upon, we do a deep dive for that location and begin to build our itinerary. For us, this is one of the most enjoyable aspects of travel planning as we can now begin to envision the new sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and adventures that we are going to experience. In our family and friend groups we are known as that overly organized couple, but it's that characteristic that makes us your ideal travel planners.

 

Our travel philosophy
At its core, travel is about making memories, but what comprises these memories? Our belief is that there are four major elements to travel; sightseeing, experiences, cultural immersion, and of course dining.

This planet that we live on is filled with endless amounts of beauty that at times has left us literally speechless. Just when we thought we had seen the best scenery that we could ever possibly see, our next destination somehow opens us up to something new and even more grand. We just feel so fortunate to see the beauty of our world and we truly enjoy sharing those same experiences with others.

Whether it’s hiking a mountain, driving a scenic road, lounging on the beach, exploring a market, visiting a museum, or simply taking in the grandeur of the night sky, we love getting out of the ordinary of our everyday lives. Some of the experiences that we have had on our travels have taken our breath away and then made us storytellers. These are the experiences that will imprint your memory for a lifetime.

When we visit a new destination, we love soaking up the culture for that area. We want to learn what makes this location unique. What is its history? What traditions exist? What is the industry and commerce for those that call this place home? In short, what makes this place unique and how can we immerse ourselves and get a feel for that local culture? An escape from our everyday norm is not only healthy but can also be very enlightening.

Some of our best travel memories have come from dining experiences. We have a rule that we always follow when we travel; we will not dine at any restaurant that is available to us at home. Whatever the local diet is, we want to experience it! What better way to immerse yourself into a culture, than by dining like a local and maybe stepping out of your comfort zone. Ask the locals, they are usually happy to share with you the best location to dine for local food fare.

While everyone certainly enjoys vacation, we know that not everyone enjoys the planning phase like we do. In fact, let’s be honest, we are probably a bit strange for enjoying the planning phase.
